2019 - Round 7 Race Report Tomahawk NY

June 6, 2019

Rain Rain Go Away!  Yet another race weekend where the rain was a factor.  What we wouldn’t give for a nice dry weekend of GNCC racing, however the mud doesn’t slow our team down.  The youth bike race had a steady rain during the entire race just enough to leave it a mess for the 10AM and 1PM racers.  Tely Energy Race team fielded 12 riders for the weekend and ended up with 6 podium finishers and 8 racers in the top 5.  Great results as a team!

Steward Baylor, Jr. made his way back to a podium spot this weekend.  He battled his way back from 12th place after the first lap and just continued to put the charge on.   Snowshoe Mountain is always challenging so it is anyones race in a few weeks.

Grant Baylor had a great start to his race and worked his way all the way up to 5th until he had a crash which stoved him up pretty good.  He decided it was better to not push it after just coming back from injury.

Liam Draper was having a great race and was riding in 3rd place in XC2 the majority of the day until a mechanical issue ended his day.  He ended up in 9th place.

In the 10am race, Bill Gold, a support member of Tely Energy Racing, had a consistent day.  He rode in 4th place the entire race and ended the day in 4th place in Masters A (50+).

Chase Rutan had a rough day in the mud but still managed to salvage points with a 10th place finish out of 19 riders in 125 B/C.

The man of the year in the youth race continues to dominate the competition with another solid win.  This time winning by a narrow margin of 1.7 seconds but still winning the YX1 class and the youth overall.  He continues his unbeaten streak and looks to put it on the line on Snowshoe Mountain which is one of the most challenging of the courses we see all year.

Garyson Smith was consistent again but this time managed to reach his goal of a podium spot.  Garyson ran his entire race in 4th place until the next to the last lap where he pushed ahead and ended up in 3rd place in YXC2.

It didn’t take Paul Best long to get back to his familiar spot on the podium.  In just his third race back, he battled from 7th place and kept pushing to end the day in 3rd place in 85 (12-13).  He will only continue to improve as he gets back to the same shape he was in prior to the injury.

After making the podium last week, Ty Ely battled the mud and rain to go from 8th place to end the day in 5th place out of 29 riders in (12-13).  He is not a stranger to the podium so look for him and Paulie to be frequent visitors the remainder of the year.

Andrew Segars managed to get another 2nd place finish in 85 (7-11).  He has been a consistent presence on the podium all year and continues to lead in his class championship.  He is looking to get back to the top of the box at Snowshoe so this class is going to be a real battle till the end.

No one is more consistent and solid of a rider than Keifer Galiano.  Keifer finished with his 6th third place finish in a row in 65 (10-11).  He will continue to battle with the top riders in his class.

Ronnie Rusch is knocking at the podium door in XC2.  He battled for the top spot for the two laps then dropped back until he ended the race in 6th place.  He will continue to battle and keep his head up as he is the youngest rider in the class.
